ABOUT US

AcuCentre was founded by Dr. John Yi Jiang in 1997 in Christchurch. John was previously the Head of Department of  Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Associate Professor of  Acupuncture and Moxibustion  and  Deputy Chief  Physician at The First Military Medical University and its affiliated Nan Fang Hospital from 1993 to 1995 in Guangzhou, China. He opened the first AcuCentre clinic at The Herb Centre in Kilmore Street in 1997. His reputation grew quickly and within less than a year he moved into his own premises at 27 Springfield Road.Then John moved his clinic at current place 965 Colombo Street in 2005 and he could offer his service to more people.

Ms Ching Wang, John’s wife, opened AcuCentre’s second clinic in Ashburton in 2001 and the third clinic in Linwood in 2002, and forth clinic in Riccarton in 2006.

AcuCentre was founded by John Yi Jiang in 1997 in Christchurch.

John is acknowledged as one of NZ's most qualified & experienced acupuncturists and Chinese herbalists with nearly 40 years clinical experience. He is the clinical director for AcuCentre.

Previously John had been the Head of the Department of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Associate Professor of Acupuncture and Moxibustion and Deputy Chief Physician at The First Military Medical University and its affiliated Nan Fang Hospital from 1993 to 1995 in Guangzhou, China.

John was trained in both Western and traditional Chinese medicines with a speciality in the latter in China. He gained his bachelor degree of Chinese Medicine in 1983 from Shanxi College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, China. Then, he gained his Masters degree of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Acupuncture and Moxibustion from China Academy of Chinese Medicine Science in 1988. He finished his PHD study in 2018 from Chengdu University of Chinese Medicine.

John came to New Zealand in 1995 and opened the first AcuCentre clinic in 1997 at The Herb Centre in Kilmore Street, Christchurch, where his reputation snowballed. Within less than a year, he moved into his own premises at 27 Springfield Road, where he was able to offer his service to more people. 


He again expanded his business to the current location 965 Colombo Street, Christchurch ( Open on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, after hours by appointment), to meet the demand for his services.

When not at work, John has an interest in growing organic saffron and producing pharmaceutical quality lavender (Lavandula angustifolia ‘Avice Hill')  essential oil.

Ms Ching Wang

Acupuncturist & Chinese Herbalist

Clinical Director

Ching was trained in both Western and traditional Chinese medicines with a speciality in the latter in China. She holds a Bachelor's degree in traditional Chinese medicine after five years of full-time training. She was a consultant physician and senior lecturer at The First Military Medical University, China, before she came to New Zealand in 1999.


Ching has nearly 40 years of clinical experience in the six areas of Traditional Chinese Medicine and uses them to create optimal recovery programmes for her clients based on their needs and capabilities.

Ching Wang is John's wife and supports John in the lavender business. In her spare time, she enjoys developing well-being programmes for women, especially since the 2010 earthquake sequence for stress and other associated women's issues. Also, she started a new programme for Post Covid-19 Syndrome Recovery. However, her true love and focus are on her young grandchildren.
